The Real Eastern CoyoteTuesday, March 18th at 4pm - held at the Newmarket Public Library
Click here to register! Join Chris Schadler, biologist, farmer, and co-founder of NH Wildlife Coalition, for a look at the clever and resilient coyote. It is our native song dog, a top predator, and has been shaped by red and gray wolves, dogs, and the wily western coyote. Despite the ecological benefits the coyote brings, it is the most persecuted carnivore in North America. And yet, it survives and thrives despite efforts to eradicate it. Chris Schadler will discuss coexistence strategies whether you farm, hike, or garden. "Understanding the mind and ecology of the coyote can keep us one step ahead of problems", according to Chris, who, with 30 years of wolf and coyote research, sheep farming, and teaching, will demonstrate that knowledge is power when living with coyotes. Chris has a background in wild canids dating back to the 1970s. After earning a Master's Degree in Conservation Biology with a focus on gray wolves in Michigan, she returned to the east and taught at UNH. She began farming sheep in the 1980s which turned her attention to the Eastern Coyote. How she managed her sheep while living with coyotes laid the groundwork for her understanding of and living with this predator. She is now the NH and VT Representative for Project Coyote and co-founded the NH Wildlife Coalition. |
